Modular is a unique website that allows users to modify any car of their choice and purchase parts directly from the website. With its user-friendly interface and extensive selection of car parts, Modular makes it easy for car enthusiasts to customize their vehicles to their exact specifications.

The website features a vast database of cars from different manufacturers, allowing users to select their desired car model and begin customizing it. Users can choose from a wide variety of options, including engine upgrades, suspension modifications, exhaust systems, wheels, and much more.

One of the standout features of Modular is its intuitive interface, which allows users to easily browse through different categories of parts and make modifications to their car in real-time. As users make changes to their car, they can preview the modifications and see how they would look on their vehicle.

Once users have selected their desired modifications, they can purchase the parts directly from the website. Modular offers competitive pricing and fast shipping, making it easy for users to get the parts they need to customize their car.

Overall, Modular is an excellent website for car enthusiasts looking to customize their vehicles. With its extensive selection of parts, user-friendly interface, and competitive pricing, it's a one-stop-shop for all your car modification needs.

The problem that we aimed to solve was the issue of purchasing car modifications online prior to visualizing what the mods would look like on the user's actual car.

Design Process

Research: User Interviews

Interviewing users for a website that allows the user to modify any car of their choice is crucial for several reasons:

  • Identify user needs: By interviewing users, we can identify their needs, preferences, and pain points when it comes to modifying cars. This information can be used to tailor the website to meet the specific needs of the users and provide a better user experience.

  • Improve user experience: By understanding user needs and preferences, we can make changes to the website to make it more user-friendly and intuitive. This can lead to increased user satisfaction and retention.

  • Gather feedback: By interviewing users, we can gather feedback on the website's features, usability, and overall experience. This feedback can be used to make improvements and prioritize new features.

  • Identify trends: Interviewing multiple users can help identify trends in their needs and preferences. This information can be used to develop new features or modify existing ones to better meet user needs.

  • Increase engagement: By understanding user needs and preferences, we can create a more engaging experience that encourages users to spend more time on the website and return in the future.

In summary, interviewing users is an essential step in developing a successful website that allows users to modify any car of their choice. It can help identify user needs, improve user experience, gather feedback, identify trends, and increase engagement. Therefore, we were able to conduct over 5 interviews across different experience levels and demographics of car enthusiasts.

Personas

To gain a comprehensive understanding of our users' goals, needs, experiences, and behaviors, we developed two personas for each user segment. These personas were based on insights gathered from user interviews and surveys and were continuously updated as we collected more data throughout the project. Our team utilized these personas as a tool to step outside our own perspectives and reassess our initial ideas, ensuring that they aligned with the needs and preferences of our users. We gathered the information to create our personas based on feedback from our interviews and research from our competitive audits.

Wireframes

Once our user research and usability tests were completed we created a Mid-fidelity wireframe that aligned with the needs and wants of our personas. We chose to create Mid-fidelity wireframes instead of low-fidelity because Mid-fidelity wireframes strike a balance between the quick exploration of low-fidelity wireframes and the more detailed, time-consuming process of high-fidelity wireframes. They can be used to test usability and make sure that the overall design is on the right track before moving on to the more detailed design work.

Wireframes are essential in the design process for several reasons:

  • Clarify and Communicate Design Ideas: Wireframes provide a visual representation of the layout, structure, and functionality of a website or application. They allow designers and stakeholders to communicate and refine design ideas, and ensure everyone is on the same page before moving forward with more detailed design work.

  • Save Time and Money: Wireframes can help identify usability issues and design flaws early in the process, which can save time and money in the long run. By catching problems early on, designers can avoid costly redesigns or development changes later in the process.

  • Focus on User Needs: Wireframes help designers focus on the needs of the users, rather than getting bogged down in visual design details. By focusing on the overall structure and functionality of a design, wireframes help ensure that the final product meets the needs of the target audience.

  • Facilitate Iteration and Collaboration: Wireframes are easy to create and modify, allowing designers and stakeholders to iterate quickly and collaborate more effectively. This makes it easier to incorporate feedback from users or stakeholders and refine the design over time.

Conclusion

Our senior project is a comprehensive platform that allows users to customize any car of their choice and purchase the parts directly from the website. The website is designed to provide a user-friendly experience with an easy-to-navigate interface and a wide range of options for customization. This project was made possible by the hard work and dedication of my teammates, and I am truly grateful for their contribution to this project. I believe that our website will be a valuable resource for car enthusiasts and mechanics alike, and I am proud to have been a part of its creation. Thank you to my teammates and for their support and hard work in bringing this project to life. I want to also give a special thanks to Aline for allowing us to bring her idea to life.

Working on this senior project was an invaluable experience that provided me with the opportunity to learn and apply new UX techniques that will undoubtedly prove useful in my future career as an interaction designer. Through the course of the project, I was able to gain hands-on experience with various UX techniques such as creating wireframes, conducting user research and testing, and implementing design iterations based on feedback from users and stakeholders.

As an interaction designer, it is essential to understand how users interact with digital products and create designs that prioritize usability and accessibility. By working on this project, I was able to hone my skills in this area and develop a deep understanding of how to create digital products that meet the needs of users while also being visually appealing.

 

The knowledge and skills I gained through this project will undoubtedly prove useful in my future career, as I continue to work as an interaction designer and strive to create digital products that provide exceptional user experiences. I am excited to take the skills I have learned and apply them to future projects, and I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked on this senior project.
